Caregiver’s Diary: Another Family, Another story

My parents are cottagers. They bought their own island nearly 40 years ago after sharing a family cottage with parents and brothers. In fact, my mother has never missed a summer at the lake in her life, and she is now 80 years old. My father has always been less inclined towards cottaging – it might have had to do with living with his in-laws all those years – but he has always joined my mother there as much as he could.

Silver Threads Senior Mentoring Program

Silver Threads Services’
volunteers now offer to seniors a mentoring program that provides assistance with financial inquiries, such as pension fund applications, as well as other issues that may arise with internet use and finding what they need.

BC Seniors Games

Every year, the BC Seniors Games is held in a different community in BC. This year the Games were held in the beautiful Comox Valley and Campbell River. This wonderful multi-sport event has over 3500 participants over the age of +55.

Safety Tips for Older Drivers

elderly_man_driving_500One of the most important safety precautions one can take is to try and be self-aware even though it may be hard to identify problems that develop slowly over time.

Issues like vision or hearing loss, growing forgetfulness, or the effect of prescription and over-the-counter drugs are hardly noticed. Any one or a combination of these conditions can make driving dangerous.
